Agent for Service of Process

London Law will act as the address for service of process in the UK for signatories to agreements involving overseas companies and for branches of overseas companies.

In an international context, overseas companies commonly enter into agreements, for example financing or software agreements, that are governed by English law. These agreements oblige the parties to appoint an agent, based in the United Kingdom, to receive on the party's behalf service of legal notices and process, such as High Court "claim forms" - formerly called "writs". This ensures that the Courts in the United Kingdom have jurisdiction over any disputes. The agent appointed needs to be reliable and trustworthy and to be well established to ensure continuity. They must also have the experience and the capability to deal promptly with forwarding any process received to the principal for whom it acts.

London Law meets all these criteria and has been acting for a wide range of clients, including international banks and similar organisations, for a number of years.

Our charge is £400 + VAT (if applicable) by way of a one-off fee for each new agreement and this applies for the entire term of each agreement. Disbursements arising from any service of process during a year will also be charged.

If you would like to subscribe to the agents for service of process ("ASP") facility, we will initially ask you to complete a questionnaire. Once processed we will then produce an agreement to be signed by London Law and the other parties involved which will provide us with full details of contacts and forwarding addresses in the event that legal documents are served at London Law's offices.
