Certificates of Good Standing
A certificate issued by a government official at the
companies registry as conclusive evidence that a
corporation is in existence or authorised to transact
business in that country or USA State. The
certificates are normally available in countries having
common law and in the USA. Common law forms a major part
of the law of many nations, especially those with a
history of being British territories or colonies.
For those countries who have civil law and the companies
register is kept in a county or regional office, London
Law can obtain a copy or extract from the local register
of the company details held instead of a certificate of
good standing.

Legalisations
Documents that are to be sent to a foreign country will
often need to be legalised. The legalisation confirms
that the signature, seal or stamp of a public official,
notary public or other accredited official on a document
is genuine. Where a document is party to the Hague
Convention of 1961, it requires only a government
(normally the UK Foreign and Commonwealth or US
Secretary of State) apostille (legalisation certificate)
to be affixed. For use in countries not a party to the
Hague Convention, the document has to be legalised
additionally by the consulate of the relevant country.
For some countries the document has to be presented
through a Chamber of Commerce before the legalisation by
the consulate. The UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office in
London is recognised as the world leader for the
authentication of documents. Furthermore the large
number of embassies, consulates and delegations in
London ensures an extensive and rapid processing of the
legalisation by London Law.
